About MeMy name is Amanda Zahlmann. I am a junior in college studying Elementary Education. I am from New Jersey and I love the beach and traveling. This past summer I had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain and it was the best experience. I hope to one day be able to teach abroad.
This blog is for me to share my experiences as I begin the journey to becoming a teacher. |
Why I want to teach |
Growing up, every kid has their dream job, whether it be a doctor or an astronaut. Mine was always to be a teacher. As I grew up I was always told, "you're too smart for that" or "do something where you will make more money". Upon arrival at college, I threw myself into different job paths, to please my parents. I could not find that path that would lead me to not just my job, nut my career. Finally I decided that teaching was my true passion, no one was going to stop me. Since then I have never looked back.
I realized that so many things that people say about teaching are wrong. Teachers have to be incredibly intelligent. A teacher must be able to stand in front of a full classroom of kids and teach a lesson on something that some of the kids probably don't care to learn about. The teacher needs to keep the student's attention and keep them interested in learning. While doing all of these things already, the teacher needs to make sure that all of the kids are staying on task and not doing things they should not be doing. Teaching is one of the very few professions that have to ability to directly affect future generations. I want to make impacts on lives. I want to be one of the teachers that people remember when they are old. I want to teach for the betterment of not only my students, but myself. |
